STORY:
The Brooks Range in northern Alaska is one of the most remote and least-disturbed wildernesses of North America.
Right in the heart of the Dalton Highway. 500 miles that will quite literally change your life.
The only thing out there is a couple small villages and of course the Trans-Alaska Oil Pipeline which parallels the entire Dalton. A juxtapostion that left me with more questions than answers.
We we're on our way back to Fairbanka from the northermost drivable point in the USA: Prudhoe Bay. This exact location is just before heading up Atigun Pass again.
We we're about to take on some series inclination (up to 12%) so we decided to pull over for the night along the Atigun River a couple miles out from the pass.
In the morning, we woke up to a blanket of clouds around us, the usual.
I tried throwing my drone up previous mornings in hopes to peek above the clouds but but the layer was just too thick. This morning felt different tho. It felt lighter. I could tell it wasn't nearly as thick.
I start setting up my drone and it's getting lighter and lighter very quickly. I even think to myself oh shit I might loose it. The clouds started clearing out QUICK!
I finally got the drone up and once again... everything fades out.
Are you kidding me? This is what I see on my screen.
Of course my emotional ass starts to tear up.
This happens wayyy more often that you'd think lol I really can't help it.
It almost felt like a painter revealed his best masterpiece.
But then again, not even the most skilled master could make such magic.
How perfect is this?
The blue sky.
The green valley.
The towering Brooks Range.
The fluffy clouds above it.
The blanket of clouds below it.
The Atigun river.
Absolute Freedom.
Primitive Freedom.
I very vividly remember feeling this sense of belonging and free-spirit.
A sense of being one with nature that I can't put into words.
The Brooks Range is so far out there I could feel the freedom our ancestors must have felt roaming these landscapes without the distrations of today's technology.
Just absolutely primitive and free.
Primitive Freedom
