STORY:
This photograph is a perfect example as to why I love to say
"NATURE. ALWAYS. WINS"... hear me out.
I remember very vividly being so excited to check out this waterfall, I had just seen pics from it so I had no idea what to expect in terms of lenght of hike and all that fun stuff.
Very quickly I started feeling wayyy off. As soon as I got off the van, there were people everywhere!
You see, as much as I love nature, I'm a big fan of enjoying it all to myself. I think we all do honestly, let's be real, who likes a crowded trail? Most certainly not this guy lol
Needless to say, this was a VERY packed trail!
This is Multnomah Falls, it is the tallest waterfall in Oregon and it's right off the highway.
You literally park and walk right up to it in less than 2 minutes and it is absolutely stunning!
It's made up of two tiers of basalt cliffs measuring an impressive 620 ft.
The view was breathtaking although the Disney-like waiting in line vibes were not it to say the least.
BUT, I am a chill guy who enjoys nature so it's all good lol
I take out my camera, secure it on my tripod and slowly, the noise starts to fade. The waterfall gets louder... thoughts start pouring in.
Woahhhhh! How tall is this thing?! Does this waterfall freeze? How long has it been here? What about that bridge? That's crazyyyy. What does it look like from up there? It's all SOOO green! This is so damn beautiful. The sound of water falling is incredibly calming.
Before I know it, it's almost as if it's just me and the waterfall, completely lost in a trance. Like in those movie scenes were the audio goes away into the distance? Literally me.
I'm caught up in the moment so much I'm nervously rapid-shooting every 5 seconds as if anything is going to change lol mind you my camera is literally on a tripod but yeah I tend to do this whenever I get lost in the moment as if capturing the same exact frame 5x will make it 5x better? I don't even know it's like the equivalent of a tight hug if that makes sense. Like I just can't get enough of it so I just squeeeeeeze that shutter button away.
Finally, I snap out of this trance and come back to my actual photographer senses.
Okay how do I transmit these feelings? If I kept shooting is cause none of the photographs transmitted this yet.
Then it hit me... slow shutter!!
As beautiful as my compostition was, there was obviously always someone in frame on the bridge.
Even with the slow shutter, it took me a couple tries but I finally got it...
Everything faded one last time and it was just me and the waterfall once again.
I squeeze my shutter button.
This is that very moment I froze in time forever.
