STORY:
Long before I ever picked up a camera I was always into the arts.
First drawing, then painting. But absolutely never photography. I never really appreciated the artform behind. Not sure why really.
Maybe because I had absolute freedom with an empty canvas and some paint and could just let my imagination run wild. Or maybe because the quickness of taking a photo was almost an insult to the 5 weeks I would spend on a single painting. Idk.
Sooner than later though, I did pick up a camera.
Well not technically a camera. It was an iPhone. The 3GS actually lol
What a started as just a hobby turned into my career all these years later and here I was.
Me, my camera and the endless dunes of Death Valley.
My composition was there, I just needed someone to be perfectly standing in the middle.
Again, I’m in a vast desert, what are the chances? Let’s be real here.
But then it hit me. I use to spend 5 weeks on a single painting. You’re telling I can’t wait here a couple hours until someone walks exactly where I need them to? I was instantly in.
I sat down, got comfortable and waited.
Sometimes someone would pop up on the ridge but too far left.
Or too far right. or maybe in the center but on the lower ridge.
Just never quite perfectly in the center of that middle ridge because again...
What are the chances?
Then, the most epic silhouette of all entered my frame. Cowboy hat and all.
He HAD to be the one!
Same thing happened though. Too far left he dipped for a bit and then popped up too far right.
Are you kidding me?
At this point I was about to call it quits (never fucking quit) when I suddenly see him start to make his way back left onto the EXACT middle ridge I needed him to.
It’s actually about to happen!!! Wait actually!! Holy fuck he’s there!!!
Click.
This one definitely felt more like a brushstroke though.
