STORY:

It’s not everyday you get to see a glacier let alone venture into an ice cave inside of it!

This is Matanuska Glacier and it’s actually a valley glacier. That’s right… a valley completely taken over by this massive glacier that measures 27 miles long.

It is undoubtedly one of the most incredible places I’ve ever existed in. I really don’t know another way to put in. Just merely existing in this world of ice was the most fascinating experience ever.

It was towards the end of the season and the ice was starting to melt so we really had no business being there. Our guide was very strict when her said our time in there was limited.

We had to ditch out bags in order to squeeze in here so I grabbed my wide angle and into the Matanuska we went.

Whenever I get really excited I tend to either cry or start laughing. Like literally laughing out loud lol as soon as I entered this ice world ny body decided the move was to do both.

I was crying. I was laughing. I straight up glitched for a second there but really tho… what is this place?!

Right away I take my gloves. Start touching the ice.

I fade out.

The ice looked so clear in some places. Almost as if there was nothing there and blue as a white walkers eye on other spots. How long has this water been frozen here? Are we safe? Water is definitely dripping everywhere. This is soo coooool!

I always make it a point to take in my surroundings and take a “mental photo” if you will to make sure I really remember that place for what it is and not just being there snapping photos so I’m sure glad I was able to do that in the short amount of time I was able to be in here.

Before I know it I start hearing the guides voice to turn around and start heading back.

This was my moment.

I had strategically entered last so I could have a clear shot of the cave opening looking out.

I wipe my lens, frame my composition. Click.

This is that very moment. The Heart of Matanuska.
